JEFFREY STAPLETON - Gold, Copper and Silver Leaf Collection
My Story
Jeff has been a professional artist ever since he discovered that professional art was a lot easier than working. A native of rural Indiana, drawing, painting and creating things have always been a large part of his life and his professional career. Graduating from the Columbus College of Art & Design in advertising and illustration, he continues on today with over 40 years of experiences in a broad spectrum of advertising, branding and design. He has expanded his focus to now include a fine art career that incorporates his interests in painting, design and a love for story telling. He now lives in Dayton, Ohio and in the hearts of children everywhere.
Jeffrey was born in Indiana, in 1960. After earning a BFA in Advertising at the Columbus College of Art & Design,
he resides in Dayton, Ohio, where his career moved him through experiences in advertising, graphic design and illustration. Eventually owning a small design firm for nearly 30 years. His mosaic style is a collage combination
of digital, paper, glue and oil sticks. Many portraits and iconic images, in his still lifes, Jeffrey depicts fruit, flowers, and other items in a simple, recognizable light; Mickey Interrupted (2022), for example, juxtaposes the iconic figure against a revolution of the trying times, figures and less idyllic times the mouse tries to keep us from dwelling upon.
In these and other works, Jeffrey employs a spectrum of muted palettes with colorful oil stick accents. He also draws on historical and present-day images. HIs compositions allow for new discoveries over time so each viewing becomes a delightful or insightful experience to his art.

REPOSE
48" x 48"
Mosaic-Glue | Oil | Paper | Silver Leaf | Board
A large scale piece with a simple vision-a state of peace.
REPOSE is a feeling of calmness; a quiet and undisturbed feeling. coolness,
imperturbability, imperturbableness. calm and unruffled self-assurance. quietness, quietude, tranquility, tranquillity. a state of peace and quiet. Underneath that blanket of calm and peace I find a turbulent state, things moving, making noise, full of energy and vibrance. Plus it’s fun to walk up to and see and feel a different emotion and a search for a few hidden stories. (and if you’re counting, there are 415 images in this piece).

Commuter train systems are the backbone of modern metropolitan areas. They connect people within cities, bring people from the outskirts and suburbs to the main city centre, as well as connect the city to its airport, ports or recreation areas. It’s something that I am still fascinated with today. Our society is ever evolving and changing and trains symbolize this on many levels. I even think of my life as a series of trains that have come and gone, hopefully, the one I’m on now will arrive on time:-)
“The only way to catch a train is to miss the one before.”

BLUE EYES
36" x 36"
Mosaic-Glue | Oil | Paper | Bronze Leaf | Board
Eyes are probably the most important symbolic sensory organ. They can represent clairvoyance, omniscience, and/or a gateway into the soul. Blues eyes are sometimes attributed to “eternal youth.” And they are heralded by some to be the most desirable and attractive of eye colors, and those who have them possess a calm and peaceful personality. And I really enjoyed the speckled leafing framing the face. I found this face very enchanting and it almost seems like her eyes follow you a little bit from side to side.

CALM
36" x 36"
Mosaic-Glue | Oil | Paper | Gold Leaf | Board
Sometimes the best way to solve a problem is to breathe. When you’re not calm, you’re more likely to react impulsively instead of acting rationally, which can be disastrous when solving problems and making decisions. Calmness can most easily occur for the average person during a state of relaxation, but it can also be found with a nice chai latte or a chilled Snickers bar. Of course, underneath our state of calm will be a turbulent sea of chaos, I kinda like that irony and wonder how long til the lid will blow off. Until then, stay calm, breathe a little and enjoy.

EXTREMELY VOLATILE
36" x 36"
Mosaic-Glue | Oil | Paper | Gold Leaf | Board
Maybe a calm, soothing pose can be a little misleading and with careful study, a different story can be revealed. I enjoyed this piece as it allowed me to take an image of a beautiful woman and twist and flip a different story, depending on how you feel today. Bright, fun colors dance against the silver leaf backdrop. Of course your story may be completely different but equally rewarding. Have fun with this piece, hopefully as much fun as I had creating it.

ONE MOMENT
36" x 36"
Mosaic-Glue | Oil | Paper | Gold Leaf | Board
To think or consider especially quietly, soberly, and deeply, an elegant composition and a sophisticated woman preparing for the right moment. The pose is what makes this piece for me along with the gold leaf that frames the silhoueted figure. I hope you enjoy the see through images and the subtle stories that can be pulled from viewing it each time.
