In art, texture, line, subject matter and color are some of the tools used by the artist to convey certain emotions... and ultimately, tell a story.
While MICHEL MIRABAL’s, one-of-a-kind use of texture (rice, barbed wire, keys, bullet casings) plays a major role in his work so does his choice of color.
Today we take a closer look at a piece from his collection - “Black and White” 48x36” - painted right here in Aspen using local elements that i’m sure you will notice, with-in this fantastic photo presentation. This stunning work is a part of MIRABAL’s black series, which was created in dedication to African American culture.
“Painting in black and white is great, because it makes you concentrate on elements such as composition, value, lighting and form. Of course, colour is a vital step, but the benefit of black and white is that you can focus on the image as a whole.” https://www.creativebloq.com/illustration/how-painting-black-and-white-can-change-your-art-better-31514494
Could there be even more to the use of black and white in combination with the subject matter (American Flag) chosen?
How do you interpret it?
With Michel’s work soaring across the globe, MICHEL has earned the spotlight he deserves…And he uses this spotlight to support what he believes in.
